Michael Walton
Michael has spent 20 years helping businesses and communities improve their environmental, financial, and social sustainability through his executive leadership, strategic planning, facilitation, sustainable design, due diligence, and trust building.
Michael serves as a partner of Energy Transition Finance, a boutique advisory firm guiding the most innovative clean technology projects through the process of securing loan guarantees from the US Department of Energy's Loan Programs Office. The firm aims to promote energy innovation, confront climate change, drive job creation in the U.S., and establish its leadership in the global energy transition.
Michael is also partner with Emerald Operating Partners, a global advisory firm helping clean energy developers, corporations, private equity firms, and investors confidently navigate the energy transition. He leads Emerald's Chattanooga office where he assembles and manages high performance teams of experts, associates, and analysts that have deep experience in a wide range of energy transition and sustainability fields who can efficiently deliver results rather than just reports for their clients.
Michael serves on the boards of AIA Tennessee, US Green Building Council Tennessee, Creative Discovery Museum, ACE Mentor Program, and on advisory boards for the Interior Design, Master of Public Health, and Interdisciplinary Geospatial Technology Lab programs at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Michael studied at the ETH-Zurich as a guest student, received his Architecture degree from the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design and attended Harvard Business School's Young American Leaders Program.
