Optimizing Hybrid Energy Systems for Data Center Power

February 11, 2025 | 3:00 PM - 3:45 PM | Room C145

The rapidly accelerating data center market will not be possible without reliable, sustainable and affordable power. In this case study, we’ll analyze a data center’s needs and design a system that balances renewable energy, stable backup power and cost-effectiveness. The presentation of this use case, the various identified energy system designs and the overarching system implications will contribute to the development of more sustainable and cost-competitive future data center power solutions.

Dynamic EV Load Management with Microgrids and Flexible Generation

February 11, 2025 | 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM | C145

Global adoption of electric vehicles is happening at an exponential rate, including the need for faster EV charging.

This presentation will highlight lessons learned from deploying 1,000+ EV load management solutions, including Type 1 and Type 2 AC chargers and Type 3 DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) with solar PV and battery storage, while coupled with facility loads and utility connections. Communication protocol standards like OCPP and Modbus together with interoperability standards like IEEE1547-2018 will be discussed, which help to manage the two-way EV supply equipment energy flows.

Integrating Multiple Wind and Solar Farms on a Transmission Line

Feb 12, 2025 |  3:00 PM - 3:45 PM |  C143

This case study reviews the implementation of a multiple power plant controller (MPPC) that manages the integration of multiple wind and solar farms along a transmission line. The system consists of two wind parks and one solar farm connected to a 138 kV transmission line. Presenters will discuss the technology used to generate the solution, the design approaches and the operator control interfaces that helped overcome these challenges, as well as the lessons learned from the project.
