Data Centers and Small Modular Reactors: The (Not-So) Perfect Pairing?

Nuclears Evolution

The nuclear industry is buzzing with excitement about the possibility of pairing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) with data centers to create clean energy technology hubs. However, the feasibility of this arrangement may not be so simple: While SMRs offer a reliable, clean energy source, data centers experience rapid fluctuations in power demand that can destabilize the grid.

This presentation will highlight energy management solutions like advanced energy packet-based energy metering with user disturbance monitoring algorithms and continuous waveform recording. These solutions can help preserve the system stability at subcycle control speeds, ensuring a successful SMR–to-data center project.
